STANTHORPE STONEFRUIT

Stanthorpe stonefruit have just arrived. The season starts off with apricots and will be closely followed by wilson plums over the next few days.

MANGOES HAVE ARRIVED

The first truckload of Jabiru Tropical Orchards KP Mangoes have arrived and they are selling fast.
Stocks look good this year with a steady supply of top class mangoes coming in every couple of days for the next 4 weeks.

HI VISIBILITY VESTS

From the 1st of August, high visibility clothing must be worn by all when in the Brisbane Markets.
This was introduced by Brisbane Market Limited to help with health and safety and everybody seems to have taken it up very well.

"BRAK PAK WINS FIRST PRIZE"

At this years RNA show in Brisbane, Brak Pak Tomatoes have been judged "the best".
They have taken first prize from a large group of growers who had presented their tomatoes for judging on quality and taste.

"CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDY, LORETTA, CRAIG, KATIE, CALLUM AND GRACE AND TO ALL INVOLVED FROM 'BRAK PAK FARMING'".

FRUIT REPORT

The Hickson mandarin season is drawing to an end and supply was plentiful.
The demand was not as high as anticipated which kept the prices down and with the way the economy is at the present, I'm sure this didn't assist in any way.
New season Honey Murcott mandarins have started to arrive into the markets and quality and supply look to be superb with growers haveing good returns on the export market.
We are also receiving Rockmelons and Honeydews out of the Gumlu region from "Pasquale Melons" and they are eating superb.

NORTH QUEENSLAND SEASON

The beginning of June sees the start of production for the winter period of many types of vegetables.
Bowen Tomatoes are beginning to hit the market and we anticipate the usual high quality from our supplier Brak Pak Farms.

STANTHORPE TOMATOES

Roma tomatoes and gourmet tomatoes from Stanthorpe are in full swing now. These tomatoes are exceptional in both appearance and taste. Tomatoes coming from the Granite Belt are usually high in flavour and these are no exception.
Also in good supply are local continental cucumbers. They are all good quality, but one line is exceptional. This particular grower grows his cucumbers hydroponically and the quality and size is terrific.
Snow Peas from Victoria are also in abundant supply with quality and value fantastic.

MANDARIN SEASON STARTS

New season Imperial mandarins have started from BLUE COW CITRUS in Gayndah.
Weather has been kind to the district, which means quality will be superb.
Supply will be good through April and May, so take advantage of not only great quality, but competitive prices for Imperials for these months.

A great supply of Valencia and Navel Oranges, Limes and Lemons are available right now as well.

ROCKMELON, HONEYDEW & STONEFRUIT

New season S.A. rockmelon and honeydew have started.
Supply will continue through to April.
J. H. Leavy & Co. will be marketing the new "Red Earth" rockmelon & honeydew brand this year.
Black Joe stonefruit is in full swing now as well. Good supply of top quality plums and peaches are now available.

NT Jabiru Mango

The NT Mango season is now in full swing.
Quality and taste is superb.
Jabiru Orchards' supply should be strong for the next 6 weeks.

Warehouse Grand Opening

Tuesday 23 September was the date of the official opening of Brisbane Market's Southgate Precinct.

J.H. Leavy & Co.'s new warehouse and office was the showcase of the day with viewings by many dignitaries and guests including the Primary Industries and Fisheries Minister Tim Mulherin. http://www.cabinet.qld.gov.au/MMS/StatementDisplaySingle.aspx?id=60437

The new warehouse has over 3000 square metres of cold rooms and includes ripening and fast-cooling facilities and is capable of storing over 1000 pallets of products in nine separate cold rooms each with individual temperature controls and designed specifically for fresh fruit and vegetables.

It has sealed loading docks, which saves time loading and unloading trucks while keeping the cold chain unbroken, and finger docks to facilitate side loading trucks under cover.

The new technologies installed in J. H. Leavy & Co.’s warehouse within the Brisbane Markets latest warehouse complex provide a greater range of improved options for storage and marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables.

‘Leavy’s’ have also moved into the 2 storey office building adjacent to the warehouse which has reception, administration, meeting and conferencing facilities.

Murcotts to Mangoes

Down to the last 2-3 weeks of Queensland Honey Murcott Mandarins.
Quality and flavour is still excellent and great buying at $1.00 to $2.00 per Kg.

Northern Territory mangoes are due to start in the first week of October.
Supply will increase as the month goes on.
We will keep everyone updated as we get closer.

Cherry tomato, cucumbers and chokoes

The warmer weather of Spring has brought on the cherry tomatoes with good supplies on our floor at the moment. Quality is excellent and they are very good value at the present time.

Good quality Continental Cucumbers are also in good supply and great value. Lebonese Cucumbers are a bit lighter in supply . The quality is still great and supplies are expected to increase as the weather warms up further.

North Queensland Chokoes are now in full swing with supplies great and quality superb.

BLUE COW LAPTOP COMP - 4TH DRAW

On Monday 8th September, we had the 4th and last draw in the Blue Cow Mandarin promotion to give away a toshiba laptop.

Stuart from Aratula Markets was happy to collect the last laptop given away in the Blue Cow Mandarin Promotion and wanted to thank everyone involved. (See pictures in the Gallery Page).

This week sees the commencement of the "Brak Pak" Butternut season.
Early shipments are of extremely high quality and good sizes.
Supply should continue uninterrupted (weather permitting) until late November.
Come on in and inspect the quality.

Big Gun Growers Market from Underwood was the lucky winner.

BRAP PAK tomatos started last week, and will be available until about December.
